You’re driving through Praslin, the crystal clear, turquoise on your left and mountainous jungle on your left. It’s warm, a slight breeze ruffling your hair as you gaze straight ahead, the sun on your skin as you gaze at the cloudless sky and smile at the wonder that’s Praslin Island.
Praslin Island is just one of the many islands in the Seychelles archipelago, renowned for its natural wonders and nature. In it, you can explore Vallée de Mai, Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve, its many beaches, and take ferries to other fascinating islands. Praslin and Seychelles are home to several sorts of endemic wildlife, such as the coco de mer fruit, the Seychelles black parrot, and the Seychelles Bulbul.
Exploring Praslin by car allows you to explore Praslin and its nature at your own pace, ensuring you take in the wonder and splendour of the island’s wildlife and flora.
This post discusses where to drive to discover Praslin’s nature and how Bliss Car Hire can help!
Where to Drive to Discover Nature on Praslin
You should drive to Vallée de Mai, Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve, Zimbabwe Viewpoint, and to Seychelles’ many beaches, such as Anse Lazio, Anse Georgette, Cote d’Or Beach, and many more.
Vallée de Mai
This national park is a living remnant of Praslin’s ancient palm forests and is the largest one intact. It’s home to the mysterious coco de mer, the world’s largest fruit. Since it’s been isolated for more than a million years, endemic and rare species have developed, making the destination a paradise for nature lovers.
Vallée de Mai is so beautiful that it was described as the “Garden of Eden” by General Charles Gordon in 1881. It’s been a protected UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983.
Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve
Fond Ferdinand is the lesser-known, much larger equivalent to Vallée de Mai – six times larger. It’s only reachable by rental car or bus, adding to its air of mystery. Hike the two to three hour up to the viewpoint, where you can overlook Curieuse, Sister Island, Coco Island, Round Island, Felicité, La Digue, Frégate, Mahé, and Silhouette.
Zimbabwe Viewpoint
After a steep drive up a dusty dirt road, you’ll reach Zimbabwe Viewpoint, where you can look out over Praslin’s forests, its coastline, and much of the archipelago.
